The Wonderful World of Wool
I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing the lovely Lara from World of Wool inside my membership on zoom this week to find out a bit more about the wooly company 🤩

The first thing thing that struck all of us about World of Wool was just what an idyllic place it sounds like to work! I think Denise (...heck all of us) would secretly love to work there!) They all sound like such a friendly bunch, and although there is no doubting that they all work hard responding to our enquiries and preparing/ packing our wooly goodness, one of their values seems to be about having fun, which is something we would all do well to imitate!
In fact, 'fun' was one of the 3 words Lara used to sum up World of Wool. They were:
Yorkshire - this company is Yorkshire born and bred. (They always have the Yorkshire Tea on the go!)
Fun - when they laugh, they LAUGH! They also enjoy some healthy competition at times!
Dedicated - they are committed to being an ethical and responsible company in all respects, from quality control to animal welfare and supporting their suppliers.
World of Wool is invested in supporting small businesses. They even forgo having stands at big craft events because they don't want to take much needed trade away from their customers and other craft businesses. We all loved that so much 💕
Despite being such a huge company, they have not lost the personal touch and I think a lot of that may stem from the fact that this is still a family run business. From small beginnings in a humble garage, this business was founded by David Morsley in the 1980's in Slaithwaite, (pronounced Slough it!) and it now has it's own Mill as well as their main HQ in Milnsbridge, Huddersfield (West Yorkshire). The latter has a factory shop which is open to the public where you can go and see, touch, and even smell all the wonderful wooliness they have to offer! (We are planning a trip for sure!)
Although my members and I were primarily interested in World of Wool for the needle felting supplies, (you truly can never have enough felting fibre 😉) they also do products for wet felters, spinners, knitters, crocheters and weavers. They also have a huge range of unusual fibres from Vicuna and Yak right through to Bamboo and Silk!

They stock some amazing crafting kits such as the ones created by the talented Cindy Lou from Chicktin Creations (whom I had the privilege of interviewing earlier this year). They work closely with the kit creators and it sounds like they really care about the individuals behind the kits; again that personal touch shines through.

They even have a blog and feature some of their Makers on there, as well as doing write ups about the different fibres, wools and breeds of sheep:

If you have used any of their fibre in your felting projects, you can even submit a photo and might see it included in their gallery!

Their extensive new website was designed and built in house by a member of their team, Andy, and is regularly kept up to date and new products are being added all the time.

If you've ever rung, emailed or used the live chat facility on the World of Wool website, you will likely have chatted with Lara or her colleague Ross... yes they are real, live people (not robots) who answer your questions and are committed to helping with any queries you may have, from recommendations for the perfect type of wool for your project, right through to colour matching shades of wool from a photo you want to work from.
So if you are on the waitlist for my Pet Pawtrait Course and are wanting to match colours for the perfect pet portrait or if you are following along with one of my tutorials or other felting project, the team at World of Wool (likely Lara or Ross) will be happy to assist in building your perfect colour palette.🎨
If you can't wait to place an order, then they have some summer promotions on at the moment and Lara told us to look out for some promotions on carded wool coming up, so if you are not subscribed to their newsletter yet, you may want to get on their list!

World of Wool ships worldwide and I thoroughly recommend you try them out if you haven't already.
Also, you can order the most amazing samples from World of Wool, and they are not stingy samples, so you can really get an idea of what the fibre is like before you commit to a large quantity. (I'm sure I'm not the only one who has ordered 100g bags of wool from other suppliers only to be disappointed when it arrived as it looked a different colour online!)
When you next order from this lovely supplier, please take note of the personal packer's name on the packing slip with your order, and you might want to remember to send them some love and thank them for their hard work, as each and every message is appreciated.💕
Thanks so much to Lara for meeting with us, we loved every minute!🤗
